How to play
Find four groups of four words. Each word belongs to one group.
The yellow row is a group that has already been found. The four darker tiles are the words currently selected.
- Select
- Tap four words that share a connection. Tap a selected word again to remove it.
- Submit
- Choose Submit to check your group. A correct group appears as a colored row.
- Mistakes
- Find all four groups before making four incorrect guesses.
- Controls
- Shuffle changes the order. Deselect all clears your selection. Neither uses a mistake.
Yellow is usually the most straightforward group and purple the trickiest. You can solve them in any order.

What the feedback means
"One away" means three of your four words belong together, so swap one word and try again. If you submit the same four words twice, you'll see "Already guessed" and won't lose another mistake.
How the colours work
Yellow is usually the most direct group and purple the trickiest. Purple often depends on wordplay rather than a shared meaning. You can solve the colours in any order.
Originals and dates
Originals are numbered by the day they're released, on the same calendar as Connections, so some numbers have no Original. A new Original is released every day. The date under its number is the day it belongs to.
The two daily selections follow the same edition date. If the next edition is delayed, we keep the latest available date clearly labelled.
Saved progress
When browser storage is available, your progress is saved in this browser only. It is not tied to an account and does not move to another device or browser.
Tips for your first puzzles
- Start with the word that seems to fit the fewest ideas.
- If five words fit a group, one may be a decoy.
- Look for a complete set of four before submitting.
- Shuffle the board when you're stuck and want a fresh view.
